When she isn't exploring the Okanagan with her family (both four legged and human), hiking or soaking up some sunshine at one of our many beaches - you might find her creating beautiful handmade dreamcatchers which she offers on the market!
OK: Did you grow up in the Okanagan and if so where and what are your favourite memories? If not - where did you grow up and how did you stumble upon Okanagan living?
Kristen: I grew up in the Okanagan and my favourite memories were the days spent exploring the nearby mountains, from tobogganing to hiking and the summer days spent in the lake and on the beach.
OK: What has your journey been like to creating your beautiful dreamcatchers? We would love to know the details and what inspired you along the way!
Kristen: I started making dream catchers with a friend about 5 years ago, we watched some youtube videos and away we went, I immediately fell in love. There are so many ways you can make a dream catcher and I love the endless variations.
OK: How would you describe your style? Are there any crafters/artists/designers that you particularly look up to?
Kristen: I would describe my style really as most styles. I enjoy making all types of dream catchers from traditional to boho, it's an ever changing style.
OK: When do you feel the most creative?
Kristen: It's hard to explain when I'm most creative, it just happens! I can't pinpoint when or why it happens. If I come across a style I like I'll want to try it almost immediately!
OK: Do you have any favourite spots in the Okanagan?
Kristen: My favourite spots in the Okanagan would be where my favourite memories come from, the beach and the mountains!
OK: We live in such a mass-produced society. Why should people continue to make things by hand?
Kristen: People should continue to make things because it is good for our souls. The mass produced items we often find ourselves buying don't have a story, they don't have a heart but hand-crafted items do, each item has it's own individual story.
OK: Can you tell us one place in Canada you would love to visit and why?
Kristen: One of the places in Canada I would love to visit would have to be the North West Territories because I want to see the magnificent northern lights and I want to experience what it's like in the summer to not have the night or the winter to not have the light.
OK: Your favourite quote is ...
Kristen: Favorite quote would be from Alan Watts, "But at any rate, the point is that God is what nobody admits to being, and everybody really is."
OK: You have the day off and can do anything at all - what do you do in an ideal YOU day?
Kristen: My ideal "me" day would be packing a lunch and taking the dogs up to the mountains and hike around.
